JAZZ EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR
The recipient of the Jazz Educator of the Year was nominated online and then chosen by the NJF Educator Award Committee.
Jim Sheffer has been a music educator in public schools for the past 26 years. During his tenure, he has worked tirelessly to foster a love for Jazz in his students. Jim Sheffer’s concerts and hearing his Jazz Band play are always enjoyed. It’s amazing how he reaches his middle school students and how they have not only an appreciation for Jazz, but a love for Big Band music and a true passion for Jazz.
NJF LOVE AWARD
The National Jazz Festival LOVE Award was created to honor a student who has used their passion for music to better the lives of others through activism and/or community service. Students were nominated by their directors, parents, or fellow musicians.
Nominated by John Ketterer, Band Director Steinert High School. “Luke is an all around great musician and person. Luke is an Eagle Scout and for his project he wanted to combine his passion for helping other with his passion for music. Luke put together a benefit concert titled “Music for Meals” where the cost of admission was canned goods. The canned goods, which filled a 12 foot trailer and an SUV was donated to the Pearson United Methodist Church Food Pantry. Luke worked to have our high school groups as well as many local community and youth group ensembles perform. I could not think of a better person to recommend for this award than Luke Armstrong.”
